About the event

An all-star Australian line-up joins Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe winning legend Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist, Requiem for a Dream, Netflix’s House of Cards) in a new production of Moisés Kaufman’s acclaimed Tony nominated play 33 Variations.

In 33 Variations, Ellen plays the brilliant Katherine Brandt, a musicologist deeply devoted to her study of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. Featuring stunning live performances of Beethoven’s masterpiece, the play moves between Beethoven’s creation of the work and Katherine’s journey to understand the composer’s obsessive drive. Meanwhile, Katherine’s own single-mindedness has led to a strained relationship with her often overlooked daughter Clara.

Lisa McCune, William McInnes, Helen Morse, Francis Greenslade, Toby Truslove, Andre de Vanny and pianist Andrea Katz join one of the world’s greatest actors on stage in a deeply moving story about a mother and daughter struggling to connect as they face the greatest challenge of their lives.
